  Fact tidbits about carrots Carrots derive their name from one of the most predominant substance in them which is called beta -carotene. Beta-Carotene belongs to the carotenoids family and give the carrot their orange colour. When it reaches the intestines, the body converts beta-carotene to vitamin A, also called retinol.
